In their native Algeria, Nassima and Benyoucef owned a few palm trees that produced just enough Deglet Nour dates for them and their families. When they came to Canada with their three children in 2008, they immediately noticed that most of the dates available in Quebec were dry and that their favorite variety was virtually impossible to find. Deciding to remedy this, the couple founded My Datte in 2018 by forming a partnership with the Algerian cooperative Biodatte. This coop brings together a few organic date growers, which is very important to Nassima and Benyoucef - they believe strongly that stopping the use of synthetic pesticides is the best choice for the environment, their health and that of their children. The Deglet Nour date is grown in the Tolga oasis in Algeria and is harvested once a year, in October and November. As soon as they are picked, the dates are frozen, which keeps them moist without affecting their taste or texture. You always receive dates from the last harvest and whether it's been six weeks or six months, they are just as fresh and can be kept for eight weeks in the fridge or even longer in the freezer.
